From Photo to PBR Textures
Easily create high-quality PBR digital fabrics with just your camera and Bandicoot’s powerful web-based tools
Traditional methods for creating PBR digital fabrics often demand expensive specialised hardware like stereometric scanners or advanced lightboxes, along with complex software that requires additional licensing fees. These upfront costs can be prohibitive for smaller teams or individual professionals, making high-quality digital fabric creation inaccessible to many.
Manually creating PBR textures often leads to inconsistent results, especially when multiple team members work on the same project or when processing batches of materials. Variations in lighting, alignment, or processing techniques can compromise the accuracy of the digital fabric, resulting in textures that don’t match the physical material or fail in 3D applications.
The traditional workflow for creating PBR textures is labor-intensive and repetitive. Professionals spend hours manually aligning and editing texture maps to ensure they are seamless and meet quality standards. This not only delays project timelines but also detracts from time that could be spent on higher-value creative tasks.
From physical fabrics to flawless PBR textures, Bandicoot streamlines your workflow with accuracy, consistency, and ease
With Bandicoot, all you need is a DSLR camera, a hot-shoe flash, and one of our PRO Frames to create professional-grade PBR textures. How much does it cost to create a digital fabric with Bandicoot?
Our pricing is based on a flexible credit system, allowing you to pay only for what you use. Creating a full PBR digital fabric costs 10 credits, with credit prices ranging from $0.50 to $0.80 per credit depending on the size of the package you purchase.
See our pricing page for more information.
What equipment do I need to create digital fabrics with Bandicoot?
You’ll need a DSLR camera, a hot-shoe flash, and a Bandicoot PRO Frame (included in the Starter Package). Our solution eliminates the need for expensive specialised hardware while ensuring professional-grade results.
We generally recommend using a DSLR camera with no less than 24 megapixels, and a prime lens (50mm or 85mm) mounted to the camera for best quality.
It is possible to use a zoom-lens and built-in flash with most cameras, but it is not recommended.
Feel free to send us quick message to check if the equipment you have is suitable. We are also happy to recommend a complete camera kit, if you need to buy a new one. These normally start from US$ 1,500/kit in most countries.
How long does it take to process a fabric?
The entire process, from uploading photos to generating fully processed PBR textures, typically takes 60-90 minutes in our cloud-based system.
While this may seem long, you can upload multiple materials for simultaneous processing. There's nothing you need to do while the materials are processing, so you can go for lunch or work on something else. Our system will email you when your PBR textures are ready in your library.
Can I use Bandicoot’s tools with materials already captured using other technologies?
Absolutely! If you already have PBR maps generated with another capture technology, you can upload them directly to Bandicoot’s platform for seamless tiling, stitching, storage, and sharing.
Read about our seamless tiling and stitching tools here.
What file formats and PBR texture maps are supported for downloads?
Bandicoot supports popular industry-standard formats, including PNG, U3M, and GLTF. This ensures seamless integration into your existing 3D design tools and workflows.
You will receive a complete set of high-quality PBR texture maps, including Base Colour, Roughness, Metallic, Normal, and Displacement. Additionally, we support Alpha map generation for materials requiring transparency effects. All maps are seamlessly calibrated and ready for immediate use.
Is Bandicoot’s solution suitable for large-scale projects?
Yes! Bandicoot is built to handle both individual prototypes and high-volume digitisation projects. Our cloud-based platform makes scaling up effortless without compromising quality or consistency.
