Camera Specifications and Settings

To optimise your denim scanning process, it's crucial to use the appropriate camera equipment and settings. A DSLR or mirrorless camera with at least 24 megapixels and a prime lens is recommended for capturing high-quality scans. Additionally, an external flash, such as a Nikon Speedlight or Canon Speedlite, is crucial for achieving the correct exposure.

Preparing the Bandicoot Pro Chart

Preparing for the scanning process involves printing the Bandicoot Chart on matte, heavyweight A4 paper using an inkjet printer. The chart should then be placed on top of your denim material, leaving at least 1-2 metres of clear space around it. Take a test flash picture of the chart from above and ensure the exposure is bright but not over-saturated.

Setting Up the Scanning Environment

When setting up your scanning environment, avoid direct sunlight and opt for a room with normal or dim lighting. It's essential to keep the material and chart stationary during the process to maintain consistency.

Camera and Lens Recommendations

Although it is possible to use a phone or compact camera, a DSLR or mirrorless camera is highly recommended for superior scan quality. Prime lenses with a fixed focal length are preferable, but zoom lenses can also be used if necessary.
